Free Clinic Health Center functions as an urgent care clinic for adults aged
18-64 without private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and who do not qualify
by low income for county health care. Professional doctors and nurses
volunteer their time and services to see patients whose medical needs meet
qualifying criteria.
Patients who see Health Center doctors and/or the Nurse Practitioner are
assisted with medications for the short term at little or no cost.
On a long term basis, patients who qualify are assisted with obtaining
medications through the pharmaceutical drug assistance programs (DAP).
What we treat:
- Chronic conditions such as asthma, allergies, arthritis, diabetes,
hypertension, acid reflux, basic cardiac disorders, high cholesterol,
hypo-thyroid disorder, ears, nose & throat problems, foot problems,
need for orthopedic assistance or physical therapy
- Acute conditions such as colds, flu, infections, spider bites, rashes,
minor wounds
What we don't treat:
- Worker’s Compensation cases, injury on the job, auto accidents,
complex medical conditions (e.g. HIV, Graves Disease, Ascites,
Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis), disability determination, OB/GYN,
approval for disabled parking, seizures/stroke, sexual dysfunction,
STDs, mental health, disease complications, conditions that require
controlled medications or muscle relaxants, immunizations, anyone
needing anti-coagulants, chronic wounds, anyone needing surgery
How to see a doctor:
- Call 327-0333 to check for physician availability and/or schedule an
appointment
- Come to the “walk-in clinic” on a first-come-first-served basis to see
a physician or Nurse Practitioner as available, with a suggested
donation of $5.00 for an administrative fee

- Financial contributions to offset the annual cost of
medications
- Over-the-counter medicines (pain relievers,
laxatives, multi-vitamins, antacids, antihistamines)
in original, sealed containers
- Insulin syringes (.3cc, .5cc, 1cc) - especially .5cc
- Bandages of all sizes and cloth tape
- Alcohol swabs (individually wrapped)
- Tongue depressors
- Case of bathroom-size pump, anti-bacterial liquid
soap
- Copy Paper
- 55-gallon garbage bags
- Bottled water
- Spray window cleaner
- Paper towels
- Toilet Paper
- Unexpired diabetic test strips for TrueRead meters
- New or used adjustable (adult) patient chair for slit
lamp eye exams - this will help uninsured diabetic
patients get annual eye exams to prevent or
diagnose diabetic retinopathy.
Volunteer Assistant for Weekly Diabetic Class
Assist instructor with set-up & take-down, registering
participants, dispensing supplies, etc.
Time requirement: Mondays 5:30-6:30 PM.
Intake
Greet patients, schedule patients, answer phones,
retrieve patient charts.
Time requirement: Blocks of 3 hours or more.
Volunteer Doctors and Nurses (RN's, LPN's)
Licensed doctors and nurses are needed to offer
clinic help to patients who do not have access to
health care elsewhere. Doctors may offer primary
care general assistance or may concentrate in their
specialty.
Time requirement: Blocks of 2 hours or more. May
work once a week, once a month, or as schedule
permits.
*Retired doctors may receive sovereign immunity
through the Health Department to volunteer at the
Free Clinic.
Computer Support for Clinic Management
Computer input (Word, Excel), phoning, faxing, etc.
Time requirement: Blocks of 2 hours or more 1 day
per week
