Phillip Gonzalez, left, wrote, "While at St. Petersburg Free Clinic I got
to see how all of the branches worked together. I learned about the
ways the Free Clinic is working in the community and its long history
there. The experience...opened my eyes to the suffering of the
homeless and the working poor."
Alexandria Musser, right, stated, "St. Petersburg Free Clinic truly
stands as a beacon of hope in the community. My plunge
transcended more than volunteer work in that each step of the way I
was experiencing poverty through the eyes of those who know it
best. My final evening in the Women's Shelter, a local church group
prepared a meal for the women and passed out sheets of paper with
inspiring quotes. The final quote voiced a Native American Proverb,
"Tell me and I'll forget. Show me and I may not remember. Involve me
and I'll understand." This, I feel, summarizes both my personal
experience and what I believe to be the first step in combatting
poverty."
Charles Johnson, left, wrote, "Pertaining to my stay
at Beacon House, I was fairly surprised at how well it
was run and how accommodating it was to the
homeless men of St. Petersburg. My experience in
Urban Plunge was something I cannot fully describe
in words. It's one thing to talk about poverty and its
causes, and it's a whole other thing to witness it
firsthand and listen to stories of individuals who
would be viewed by most as
failures."
